| Mission Statement: The Diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting (DCCS) exists to bring the benefits of Scouting to boys of the Catholic faith by assisting Catholic organizations to organize or retain Scouting units, and by providing Catholic programs to Scouts in both Catholic and non- Catholic units. Scope of Work of the Membership Committee: In cooperation with the National Catholic Committee on Scouting (NCCS), the DCCS sponsors Religious Emblems (awards) at Cub Scout, Boy Scout, and Venturing age levels, and holds a Catholic Retreat for Boy Scouts and Venturers, and Puff-Up for Cub Scouts each fall. In support of these programs, the DCCS trains adults in Boy Scout and Venturing units to present Religious Emblems classes, and supports the establishment and continuation of Scouting as an official youth ministry of the Catholic Church in the parishes of our archdiocese. Catholic Scouters in Catholic and non-Catholic units are encouraged to participate in our Catholic programs, and to join and become active in the Diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting. We meet on third Wednesday evenings in even-numbered months; check the calendar for exact dates and locations. The diocesan Scouting program depends upon Religious Emblems counselors in each unit. You are encouraged to volunteer to extend this program to boys in your unit. You are also invited to attend committee meetings and learn how you can become involved in the other work of this ministry. You may contact Bill Barnes, the DCCS Chairman, or Richard Havard, the Membership Chairman. Or, click here to fill out an online membership form! |
